Playstation 5 vs playstation 4

PlayStation 4 (PS4) and PlayStation 5 (PS5) in the world today, one of the most adventurous moments and activity we can experience is to play console games. In real sense, games have been of help to people in different ways. For those that are always feeling lonely or bored, games have become a tool that can make them overcome loneliness and boredom. That said, many game consoles are consistently released by different gaming companies just to afford gamers different games to spice up our day and give them a new and better gaming experience. Examples of these game console are PlayStation 4 (PS4) and PlayStation 5 (PS5). The acceptance of PS4 by gamers inspired Sony to improve its features and came up with PS5. Today, I will be elucidating the full features of PS4 and PS5, as well as giving a detailed comparison between them.

PlayStation 4 is a gaming console that was introduced in 2014, while the PlayStation 5 has been projected to be released in 2020. The features and the comparisons of the game console are discussed below:

Playstation 5 vs Playstation 4 Processor

The PS4 and PS5 processors work with a semi-custom Accelerated Processing Uni (APM). The APM was developed by AMD in conjunction with Sony and manufactured on a 28nm process node by TSMC. The APU combines the graphic processing unit (GPU), central processing unit (CPU), memory controller, and video encoder and recorder with a single chip. The processor made with quad-core of x86-64 with an eight-core Jaguar CPU, which gives it a higher performance in multitasking, especially when used in the living room and media centers. Each core comes with 32kb data cache and LI instruction. Each of the four-core also has a 2MB L2 cache. Also, the PS4 CPU runs a 1.6GHz. The game console also has a GPU of 1.843 TeraFLOPs and a Radeon 7000-series.

Additionally, it has an 18 computing unit and eight asynchronous computing units. In contrast, the PS5 features an eight-core AMD Zen 2 microarchitecture that runs at 3.2GHz. The graphic processing unit of PS5 is more powerful than that of PS4 and is based on AMD’s RDNA architecture that has a massive processing power of 10.28 TeraFLOPs. It also has a 36 computing units clocked at 2.23GHz, which is higher than that of the PS4.

Graphics

The PS4 and PS5 run on custom AMD Radeon chips. However, the processing speed of PS4 at 1.6GHz is lesser than that of PS5 at 2.23GHz. Also, the computing units of PS5 was greatly increased by twice that of the PS4. The PS5 has 36 CUs that run at 2.23GHz, while that of the PS4 is 18 CUs at 800MHz. The PS4 and PS5 also differ in their TeraFLOPs index. The PS4 has 1.83 TFLOPS meaning that it can handle floating-point operations of 1.843 trillion because it has 1.843 TFLOPs. In contrast, the PS5 has a whooping 10.3 TFLOPs, which means it can handle a floating-point operation at 10.3 trillion.

RAM and Storage Size

PS4 has a 8GB (1024MiB) for CUH12XX and 8GB (512MiB) for CUH10XX and CUH11XX model memory chips. The RAM can run at a 2.75GHz clock frequency of 5500MHz with a bandwidth of 176GB/s. In contrast, the PS5 has a 16GB of GDDR6 RAM at 256-bit, which gives users a superb speed when it comes to loading time during gameplay. In terms of storage, the PS4 has 500GB Blu-ray optical drive and an internal hard disk that runs at 5400RPM. Users also have an option to get a 1TB. In contrast to this, the PS5 presents users with more storage capacity of 825GB with a read bandwidth of 5.5GB/s.

The PS5 also has an off-the-shelf Solid State Drive (SSD), which allows data to become loaded in real-time and prevent data from been loaded into the RAM of the game console. This feature of the SSD makes it extremely difficult for games to suffer from texture pop-in and also prevent unnecessary slow down of games when using the PS5 fast-travel feature. It also makes the bootup time of the games from standby become faster. These features are generally absent in the PS4, where gamers experience a pretty long load up time on standby and also experience texture pop-in owing to its low bandwidth.

PS5 ssd performance

Also, the SSD of the PS5 supports the ZLIB hardware decompression like Oodle Kraken. The Oodle Kraken is one of the latest compression and decompression algorithms introduced from the RAD game tools. The tool can be used to compress files to become smaller than ZLIB. It can also decompress files faster and quicker. Games on memory sticks like a flash can be decompressed within a few minutes. Also, the decompressed games can be sent to the system faster on PS5 than the PS4. Gamers that are currently benefiting from the decompression feature of PS4 to decompress games like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Marvel’s Spider-Man enjoy this feature at an average data loading speed. However, the PS5 will offer gamers a faster loading speed because of its SSD, which is capable of processing data at a very high speed. The files are processed and delivered to the system all within milliseconds.

With the PS5, gamers will have the chance of upgrading the storage capacity by fixing NVMe SSD in the expanded storage slot. This gives the PS5 better performance than when it had the SATA SSDs and the mechanical drive. Furthermore, the SSD gives gamers control over the method of installation and the removal of games. This means that you can install the multiplayer mode of a game instead of installing its full data. Therefore, the PS5’s storage device will allow gamers to load up favorite games directly and access all the game aspects and features instead of loading the full game.

Resolution

The PS4 has a resolution of 1080p format. Its resolution also decreases with increased power consumption. In contrast, the PS5 game console will support 4K resolution at 120 Hz refresh rate and 8K at 60Hz refresh rate. This will give prospective PS5 gamers a splendid gameplay experience.

Input and Output

The PS4 has Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth 2.1, USB 3.0 ports, HDMI output, auxiliary port, Ethernet of 1000BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, and 10BASE-T. It also has the optical S/PDIF Audio and video outputs. The PS5 game console will have input and output features that are present in the PS4 game consol
